Vernon BC Neighbourhoods - Coldstream
Coldstream boasts "Rural Living at it's Best." and Coldstream is a mix of Pastures, Orchards and Subdivision development. Many acres of farmland exist amongst a few subdivided areas - several of which have views of the world renown Kalamalka Lake.
This area of the North Okanagan is one of the most sought after Real Estate locations. Many families who are looking for lifestyle look first to Coldstream. While you will have to travel slightly farther for services and shopping, folks living in Coldstream are the sort that enjoy the journey as well as the inviting respite of home at the end of the day.
Coldstream has many new subdivisions under development - most with lakeviews. Many of these are minutes from Downtown Vernon and a short walk to Kal Beach or Okanagan College. The campus for the University of British Columbia - Okanagan is a 40 minute commute from Coldstream.
There are 2 Elementary Schools in Coldstream - Coldstream Elementary and Kidston Elementary, both of which feed into Kalamalka Secondary. As far as parks go - Coldsteam is home to Kalamalka Provincial Park - which is a popular spot for hiking, mountain biking, swimming and boating. It is one of the few natural grassland parks in BC. Greater Vernon Parks include Creekside which has an off-leash dog park, picinic areas, soccer pitches, lacrosse -whatever you call where you play lacrosse, and a great skatepark. Coldstream park has picinic area and baseball diamond. This park is popular to reserve for family and club get togethers. Coldstream Creek meanders through both of these parks.
I am a long time resident of Coldstream, having grown up in the "Lavington" portion, lived in the central portion in the early 80's and most recently been a resident of the Kalview area for the last decade and a half. I love the fact that I am minutes from everything yet still have deer (now that we know what plants they dislike) and pheasant in my yard.
